Release notes
1.0.0 — First public release
Homekept is built around one idea: your home has a maintenance schedule whether you write it down or not. The 1.0 release covers everything you need to put that schedule on paper and actually keep up with it.
A plan that knows your home
- Tell Homekept your address, year built, square footage, and a few details about pool, lawn, crawl space, windows and pets — we seed a personalized maintenance plan tuned to those specifics. No generic checklists.
- Tasks are grouped into sectors — Exterior, HVAC, Plumbing, Lawn, and the rest — so you can drill into one area at a time.
- Add your own tasks for anything we missed. Pool chemistry runs, generator tests, septic pumping — whatever your house needs.
Reminders that fit your life
- Push notifications when something's coming due, paced by the frequency that fits the task — monthly, quarterly, yearly, every five years. We don't bury you in alerts.
- Snooze a task by 1, 3, or 6 months when life gets in the way. The next-due date recalculates from there.
- The dashboard's "Needs attention" panel surfaces the four most urgent items at a glance — anything overdue or due within the next two months — sorted so the most pressing always sits at the top.
Cost guidance, written for your house
- Every task includes an estimated cost range, computed for your home's size and location — refreshed monthly so the numbers stay current.
- AI-written orientation notes tell you what to do before you start and after you finish, plus a DIY / Pro / Either recommendation based on the risk + skill involved.
- Skim "Estimated cost", "Recommendation", and "Orientation" cards on any task — no need to open Google to figure out whether you can handle it yourself.
Log what you've done
- Mark a task complete with the date, condition (Good / Needs maintenance / Repaired), and whether you DIY'd it or hired a pro.
- Attach photos, jot notes, and record cost + time spent so the next time around you've got an honest record of what it took.
- Every log lives in the task's History view — scroll back as far as you want. The next-due date is computed automatically from your last completion.
- Edit or delete any log later if you got the date wrong; we'll recalculate the schedule.
Pro work too
- When you hire a contractor for a task, log it as Pro and start typing — Homekept suggests companies you've worked with before, plus nearby pros from Google Places. Picking one saves it to your private directory so the next job's a tap.
- Receipts in photos, contractor names attached to logs, and a searchable history mean you've got a paper trail when the warranty conversation comes around.
Multiple houses, shared with the household
- Track as many homes as you want — primary, rental, family property. Each gets its own dashboard, score, and reminders.
- Invite a partner or housemate by email. They sign in with that exact address and see the same dashboard you do. The invite is locked to the email you typed — no shareable links.
- Owners stay in control: revoke a member or cancel a pending invite at any time from the Members screen.
Quick setup, not a chore
- The "Set initial dates" wizard lets you back-fill when each piece of maintenance was last done — so your first month isn't a wall of "overdue" tags.
- Auto-fill from public records: pop in an address and we pre-populate year built, square footage, bed/bath counts where available.
- Add a cover photo of your house to make the dashboard feel like yours — replace it any time from the three-dot menu.
Find anything fast
- In-app search across all tasks and log notes so you can answer "when did we last service the HVAC?" in two taps.
- Filter any sector by Overdue, Upcoming, or Completed.
Sign-in, privacy, and your data
- Sign in with Apple, Google, or email + password. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt; we never see the plaintext.
- Photos uploaded to Homekept have their EXIF/GPS data stripped server-side before they're stored, so your location isn't embedded in the file.
- Account deletion lives in your Profile screen and is immediate. There's no 30-day grace window — the moment you confirm, your account, houses, tasks, and photos are gone.
- Full privacy details in our Privacy Policy.
Coming next
We're putting the finishing touches on the Request a quote flow — a way to email contractors directly from a task, get replies back inside the app, and turn an accepted quote into a completed log automatically. Look out for that in the next release.
